The 2025/2026 Olympic Handball Ireland Schools Competitions have come to a close, following months of activity across primary and secondary schools nationwide. The programme remains a central part of how young players are introduced to the sport, offering a clear and structured route from local blitzes through to national finals.
At primary level, schools from Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Limerick, Longford, Meath, Roscommon, Tipperary, Westmeath and Wexford took part. Competitions were split into two age groups: Minis (3rd & 4th Class / Year 5–7) and Juveniles (5th & 6th Class / Year 7–8). Teams progressed through group stage blitzes in the first term, followed by county and provincial rounds before reaching the All-Ireland stage.
Secondary school competitions brought together 65 teams from 21 schools across Leinster, Munster, Connacht and Ulster. Players competed in Junior and Senior categories, with provincial blitzes in November deciding which teams advanced to the All-Ireland finals.
This competition structure gives students the chance to play regularly, represent their school and develop their skills over time. It also supports teachers by providing a clear framework to deliver handball in a school setting, helping to grow participation year on year .
