We're excited to welcome two new staff members to the organisation, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to growing the game across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
This investment represents a major step forward in OHI’s strategic vision, bringing specialised expertise into both athlete performance and grassroots development.
Peter Higgins joins OHI as our new Sport Scientist, bringing a wealth of expertise in athlete monitoring, injury surveillance, and translational research.
He holds an MSc in Human Movement Science (Cum Laude) from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a First-Class Honours BSc in Health & Performance Science from UCD. His previous experience includes applied research roles with PULSE Sports in Amsterdam and the Human Performance Laboratory at UCD, where he focused on VO₂max testing, training load analysis, and injury risk profiling.
Peter will lead OHI’s work in injury surveillance for male and female players, providing critical insights to improve athlete safety, performance, and long-term welfare.
Nicola Clements has joined OHI as Sports Development Officer for Northern Ireland, bringing over 30 years of experience in playing and coaching football and hockey, alongside a 15-year career as a PE teacher.
Nicola’s focus will be on growing awareness and participation in Olympic Handball across Northern Ireland—supporting schools, engaging communities, and building long-term pathways for young people to get involved in the sport.
These appointments reflect a bold investment in the future of handball in Ireland, with OHI committed to delivering excellence both on and off the court.
