IOHA Senior Leagues to resume this weekend

When the IOHA took the decision in the middle of March 2020 to halt the Senior Leagues and cancel the IOHA Cup weekend in Gormanstown, little did we realise that this would mark the end of competitive handball in Ireland for 18 months!

There have been false dawns before, October 2020 and January 2021 came and went with the option of playing handball ruled out due to the Covid-19 numbers and Government restrictions but here we are and on October 31st (Halloween) the senior league competitions for 2021-22 will start.

October 31st in the traditional Celtic calendar was New Years Eve and the festival of “Samhain” was celebrated but for those of us in the Irish handball community this Sunday will be like Christmas morning as the games start.

Dublin City University and University College Dublin will be the venues for this weekends games.

In DCU @ 13.30 the DCH men will host Dublin International while @ 15.30 hrs it will be the turn of the ladies from both Clubs.

Across the City in UCD, the hosts will welcome the Men from Astra Wings HC @ 13.30 while @ 15.30 the UCD ladies will welcome the ladies from University College Cork.

Players, Officials and spectators are asked to adhere to the regulations set out by the venues and the Government and wear a mask at the correct times and sanitize your hands often.

The Board of the IOHA would like to wish everyone involved in the leagues the best of luck for the new season, It’s been a long time coming!
