Dublin City launch junior handball academy

Dublin City Handball Club will this week launch their junior handball academy which is being targeted at the North East Inner City.

Dublin City Handball Club will begin hosting free Olympic Handball training sessions for boys and girls aged 8-14. The sessions will be in St. Lawrence O’Toole’s Sports Hall, Dublin 1, every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5pm.

All those interested in playing Handball are welcome to attend and take part in a fun training session with our experienced coaches.

Dublin North East Inner City are supporting the project and they, along with the Dublin City Council staff in St. Lawrence O’Toole’s, have been instrumental for the realisation of these training sessions.

NEIC is an initiative seeking to create a brighter future through social and economic regeneration in Dublin’s North East Inner City.

Thanks to the generous support there will be no participation fees for all attendees.

Following a number of information days held at schools throughout the North East Inner City, all are hopeful of a great start to the Academy.

Dublin City Handball have recently started introducing Olympic Handball in the Central Model Schools. Already more than 200 pupils enjoy this dynamic sport under the guidance of Luminita Dulau, who is also the coach of the club’s senior women team.

Aurelio Aragonés, Dublin City Handball Development Officer said: “We are excited to announce the launch of the Handball Academy, one of the aims of this project is the building of a junior competition outside of school which will build a talent pool of Irish based players.”
