IOHA Concludes Week Of Handball @ School Activity

As part of the 4 year development plan that was agreed between the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the Irish Olympic Handball Association, the IOHA hosted its second Handball at School project.

From October 17th to 22nd, IHF lecturer Mr. Juan Anton Garcia visited a number a venues to introduce students to the Handball @ School concept.

Monday October 17th  saw Mr. Garcia in Lisburn where 57 coaches and students from Laurelhill Community School learn about delivering and playing the game of handball.

Tuesday October 18th saw students from Belfast Metropolitan College and SERC Lisburn being introduced to Handball at Schools.

Wednesday saw the action move to Dublin with Dublin City University being the venue, and future Physical Education teachers participating in the morning and St. Patrick’s Primary School Teachers Training College being the venue in the evening.

The action moved to Co. Meath on Thursday with local Primary School teachers undergoing the program in Ashbourne Community School.

On Friday 21st the Transition Year students of Donabate Community College were coached by Juan as part of their 6 week course.

After a hectic week Mr. Garcia still found time to visit Ashbourne CC on Saturday and observe some junior activities including that of the Women’s Handball Development Committee.
