Underage International Tournament Comes To A Close

Two days of intense but friendly handball action came to a close on Sunday evening (March 13th) in an U-16 International Handball Tournament organised and hosted by the Irish Olympic Handball Association.

Teams from Scotland and Germany travelled to Dublin to compete against Irish representative sides composed mainly of players from Post- Primary Schools in Maynooth.

In the end there were 2 clear winners, in the girls section TG Biberach claimed all their victories with relative ease and confirmed that the conveyor belt of good players is still working well in Germany, while the Scottish boys team under the tutelage  of the legendary Alan Govin powered to victory on the boys side of the competition.

For the Irish players both teams Coaches confirmed that the 2 days of action were of immense benefit to the teams and improvements could be seen in their play as the weekend went on. It was also a great experience to play in front of friends and family at home in Ireland.

The IOHA President, Fintan Lyons and Coaching Director, Andrea Ongaro were on hand to present the Cups to the winning teams on Sunday evening.

In his speech the President thanked everyone who made the journey to be in Dublin and those who made the weekend possible including referees, coaches and  match officials and he finished off by wishing to see similar events in the near future in Ireland.
