St. Patrick’s Win Coleraine Handball Competition

March 28th saw Primary School’s teams from Gorran, St. Colomba’s, St. Patrick’s, Kilrea, Culcrow and St. Joseph’s descend on the Jim Watt Sports Centre for the 2nd annual Olympic Handball Competition.

Over 100 participants took part in a tournament that was fiercely competitive but carried out in a sportsman like manner with great skills, tactics and desire on display.

The final was played out between Kilrea Primary School and St. Patrick’s from Garvagh with St. Patrick’s taking overall victory and claiming the Jim Watt Memorial Shield.

The competition was an initiative of Coleraine Borough Council in conjunction with the Sports Development/Recreation team and Rural Facilities team.

Owing to the success of the tournament Coleraine Borough Council are looking to establish regular handball sessions in the Jim Watt Centre.
