Primary Schools All Ireland Finals Day

The All Ireland Primary Schools Finals Day took place recently in Balinteer Community School and a day full of  exciting and entertaining handball was the outcome.

The first match of the day saw St. Patrick’s of  Galway take on The Harold National School in the U-13 Boy’s final. The old expression “a game of 2 halves” certainly comes to mind for this game. St Pat’s roared into a 3-1 halftime lead thanks to some excellent passing and ball retention.

However at  halftime the Boys from Dublin changed tactics and some great play between their line  player and backs saw them run out winners on a 5 -4 scoreline.

Next up was the U-11 Girls final between Craughwell NS Galway and Corduff NS of Dublin.

The Girls of Galway took control of this game from the start and try as Corduff might they just couldn’t get a foothold in the game. The Girls from Galway ran out winners on a  4 -0 scoreline.

The action switched back to the boys for the next game as St. Pat’s N.S. Galway took on Hollypark N.S. from Dublin. St. Pat’s were determined not to be heading across the Shannon with 2 silver medals.  They pressed from the start and thanks to some wonderful scoring and heroics from their goalkeeper they ran out victorious on the back of an 8-4 scoreline.

The final action of the day saw Rush NS take on Gardenfield NS in the U-13 girls final. It was clear from early on there was only going to be 1 winner in this contest and despite Gardenfield’s best efforts they couldn’t live with their Dublin counterparts and the final scoreline of  8-2 reflected this.

All in all it was a great days handball and all the players can be proud of their achievements in reaching an All Ireland Final.

The IOHA would like to thank the Coaches and Teachers for their efforts in preparing the teams over the season.

A big thanks also to all the referees and table officials who helped out over the season and to Ballinteer Community School for hosting
