Dublin International Retain Irish Men’s Cup




Dublin International recently retained their IOHA Senior Men’s after a hard fought but entertaining Final against last year’s beaten finalists UCC.The 2013 edition of the Men’s Cup took place over 2 days in the Dublin City University Sports Hall and this year the number of participants swelled to 7 teams with Belfast Olympic Handball Club taking part in their first IOHA competition.

Saturday was qualification day with the teams divided into 2 groups with the group winners meeting on Sunday to decide who would win the Cup.It was a case of history repeating itself as both UCC and DI qualified for the relatively untroubled as they did 12 months ago.Before the final on Sunday there was the final classification matches with Belfast winning their first ever match against Lughnasa to finish 5th while Astra HC took bronze after defeating the hosts for the weekend DCU.

The final was nip and tuck with the holders running out victorious on a 30-26 score line.Dublin International’s thoughts now turn to retaining their league title and completing a second consecutive double.
