January will be a hectic month for the men of the national squad. As part of their preparations for the Tri-nations which is due to be held later in the year, the coaching staff has decided upon a very intensive training schedule for the year. More details of this will be released throughout the year, but January is the starting point. Following on from a very successful year in terms of team building and performance in 2009, the Technical director , Carsten Klavehn decided that more competitive action was needed in 2010. Thus, Belgium on the weekend of the 8th-10th is to the base for a training tournament for the men. Don Bosco in Ghent is the club hosting the senior team, and it is expected that teams from Holland and France will also attend. Don Bosco currently plays in the 2nd division of the Belgian League and it is expected that the tournament will be of a very high standard. Members of the U-21 squad have also been asked to attend and it is expected that a 14 man squad will travel from Ireland. The following weekend, 15th-17th January 2010, will see the senior men travel to Lubeck. There, they will play the Bahrain National Team and a 3rd division German team. It is expected that a squad of 20 players will travel to this training weekend and all the players from the continent will join up with their Irish based compatriots. The IOHA wishes the Irish team all the best for these training camps. |
