27 candidates begin handball Coaching journey

As a result of Covid-19 and the restrictions put in place by the Government, National Governing Bodies of Sport in Ireland have had to adapt to the new reality.

The Irish Olympic Handball Association is no different in this and though playing handball is forbidden at the moment we have been proactive in other ways.

Over the summer months our Technical Director, Andrea Ongaro has been working on transferring our Level 0 Coaching Course to the virtual world.

So, with the blessing of Sport Ireland experts the IOHA recently ran its 1st Zoom Level 0 Coaching course which was delivered over 3 consecutive Monday’s in November.

When the IOHA advertised the course 1st we were hoping for 10 to 12 candidates and we were pleasantly surprised when 27 individuals signed up. Another plus was the geographical spread with people taking part from Donegal, Leitrim, Meath, Galway and Dublin. Areas that would have proved difficult to deliver to if we were in a classroom.

The course proved so popular that another course is being planned for January 2021 with further details to follow.
