IOHA Senior League 2018-19 Schedules released

The schedules for both the Men’s and Ladies IOHA Senior Leagues have been released by the IOHA Competitions Committee and excitement is building ahead of what should be another intriguing handball season.

Competitions Committee Chairman Andrew Maher gave his thoughts at the schedule launch.

“The IOHA Men’s League begins on the 10th of November with all 6 teams in action, the first game of the new competition throwing off at 11.30 in DCU Sports Arena between Dublin Wings and current men’s league champions Dublin International.

The women’s league gets under way a half an hour later in UCD, with champions Astra the student’s first visitors.

Following the international break in early January 2019 all teams return to action on January 26th.

Rounds 8 and 9 of the league, in the second half of February, sees teams playing each other back-to-back which is sure to provide some interesting results. As the playoff places begin to be finalised it remains to be seen which teams can withstand the pressure or which teams may come unstuck.

The IOHA Cup takes place once again on the weekend following St. Patrick’s Day, giving all teams a chance to focus on getting their hands on the first available silverware of the season.

The final round of fixtures at the beginning of April will decide which teams are done and who will reach the playoffs to give themselves a chance of being Irish champions.

The men’s and women’s All-Stars game will take place on Easter weekend in the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown, with competition for places sure to be ferocious.

The playoffs, taking place over two weekends, will see the best teams Irish handball has to offer compete for the ultimate prize. The finals, on May 4th, will be once again be hosted at DCU Sports Arena. Four teams will compete in one day to crown the men’s and women’s champions for 2019.”
