Cream rises to the top after semi final Saturday.

Saturday April 21st saw the 4 IOHA League semi finals take place in Dublin City University and as a result we are down to 2 teams in both the Men’s and Women’s leagues.

In the first Women’s semi final, Astra handball club continued with their regular season dominance when they brushed aside a spirited Dublin City side on a scoreline of 31-6. As a result they have a chance to avenge last years final defeat against the ladies from Dublin International. The DI ladies were involved in a more competitive semi final vs. UCD where they ran out victors by 25-16.

In the Men’s semi finals Astra battled to the very end against defending league champions Dublin City but just couldn’t close the gap as the clock became their enemy and their good post Christmas run came to an end. The boys in yellow won 30-26. The last game of the day saw the big guns of Dublin International clash with the youthful Dublin Wings. The Wings stayed with DI till half time (19-18) but their recent injury and disciplinary problems came back to haunt them as the Black and Red of DI power away to a 41-30 scoreline.

As a result of Saturdays outcomes the Astra ladies and Dublin City Men have a chance to complete a League and Cup double. But and it’s a big but Dublin International will be standing in their way.
