Dublin City Handball Club, the defending league Champions got their first IOHA Cup in the young Clubs history after an exciting weekend of handball in Gormanstown College.
Drawn in a group with Dublin International 1, UCD and the Irish Men’s 18 squad they got off to a good start by defeating UCD 21-16. Next up was a cagey affair against their nearest rival this season, Dublin International, a game which finished in a 18-18 draw. They rounded off their group games with the necessary victory over Ireland M18 20-13.
On Sunday they faced Dublin Internationals 2nd team and a facile victory (19-5) was the perfect warm up for that afternoons final.
In that final they would once more face Dublin International 1 who had beaten Dublin Wings in the other semi final 18-16.
In the 2017 final both teams faced each other with the Men from Phibblestown victorious on a 19-15 scoreline, however the Dublin City boys were determined that wasn’t going to happen again. And after a tense final the team in yellow ran out victorious on a 23-22 scoreline. Their 1st IOHA victory.
Dublin Wings took the bronze medals home.
