First Beach Handball event of the summer.

With the indoor handball season well and truly over and with the nights getting shorter and the days getting warmer the thoughts of some handball players are turning towards beach handball.

This weekend 20th and 21st of May will see the 11th edition of the “Battle for the Bay” take place on Dollymount Strand in Clontarf, Dublin.

“The concept of the Battle is very simple: Fun, Wind, Water…and Fun!!! The best riders in the country and from around the globe will come and compete in one of the best kitesurfing spots in the world: Dollymount Beach! Home to the Puremagic gang. Everyone is welcomed, young and old, to join this amazing celebration of Irish Kitesurfing, SUPing and Dublin style beach fun. You can expect loads of surprises during the bumper packed weekend!”

For the first time in the history of the event handball will have a presence thanks to a small number of beach handball enthusiasts in Ireland and they are hoping to use the event to increase their membership in Ireland.

From 11.30 a.m. on Saturday there will be a handball court set up near our friends in Beach Volleyball beside the Bull Islands and the plan is to have fun matches all day.

The event is open to everyone whether you have played handball before or not and hopefully it will lead to a series of further Beach handball events all through the summer of 2017. And if after the sun has gone down you want to keep enjoying yourself you can attend the official after party in The Church bar and restaurant in Dublin city centre.
