Senior Leagues return this weekend after Christmas break

After hopefully enjoying the Christmas and the New Year celebrations the Ladies and Gents from Astra HC and Dublin City are the first teams to return to action in 2017 in the IOHA senior league.

Loughlinstown Leisure Centre will be the venue on Saturday and Sunday as the teams try and improve their position on the league table.

It’s a case of ladies first as the Astra ladies host their visitors from the City centre, tip off time is @18.30 hrs.

While the Astra ladies might be favorites to win, the newcomers from Dublin City will be eager to improve on their 6-32 defeat last month and make a positive start to 2017. Astra coach, Andrea Ongaro won’t let complacency slip in to their pursuit of table toppers, Dublin International HC.

Just over 12 hours after the final whistle goes in the ladies match it’s the Men’s turn, tip off 09.30 hrs.

This has the makings of being a thriller and possibly the biggest match of the season so far. Victory for Astra will not only bring Dublin City’s unbeaten season to an end but will move the DLR men on to 6 points and level with DC and Dublin International HC. There was only 2 goals between them when they met in Glasnevin in December and Dublin City will be eager to put points on the board and move clear at the top of the table.

These are the first matches in a busy January, where anything is possible and an unbeaten run could secure a direct route to the final.

One disappointing event from before the Christmas break was the withdrawal of Lughnasa HC from the senior men’s league after just 1 game.
