IOHA Signs Memorandum of Understanding With IoMHA

The Irish Olympic Handball Association used the occasion of the pre-season refereeing course to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Isle of Man Handball Association.

Mike Jelski, the Isle of Man chairman and Mick Hegarty, education and development Director, travelled to Dublin to sign the agreement while also attending the referee course.

In recognition of the longstanding relationship between the IoMHA and the IOHA, as well as the challenges which both countries face in the development of handball at all levels, this MOU has been drawn up.

Key areas of cooperation are:

1. Sharing of coaching courses, materials and resources
2. Sharing of refereeing courses, materials and resources
3. Competitions at underage level between Manx and Irish teams
4. Competitions at senior men’s and women’s levels between Manx and Irish teams
5. Regular meetings to discuss opportunities for further cooperation
6. Harmonisation of sponsors and TV rights when and where possible

The IOHA agrees to provide the IoMHA with coaching materials and courses which have already been developed and to work with the IOHA in developing further courses at more advanced levels and within the framework of the EHF Rinck Convention.

The IoMHA Chairman stated that the agreement is an important step in the continued development of handball on the island while IOHA President, Fintan Lyons stated that the agreement is a logical decision given the relationship between both federations which goes back over 20 years.
