Big Wins for Dublin International and UCD

There were 2 significant wins for Dublin International and the students of UCD on Saturday November 21st as both clubs moved in the right direction on the IOHA Senior Men’s league table.

Dublin City HC 26 – 29 UCD HC

In their opening game of the season UCD won away to Astra and their thoughts must have turned to going one better in the Final 4 in 2016 but back to back defeats to Dublin City and Lughnasa brought them back to reality for the moment. However after a victory over UCC, the students had the opportunity for revenge over their Dublin City rivals in the UCD Sports Centre . And revenge is what they got with a 29-26 victory and gets their season firmly back on track . The DCH players did well to get within 3 goals of the hosts having trailed 17-9 at the break.

Dublin International HC 34 – Lughnasa HC 22

Dublin International continue to do what they do best, win. They made it 3 victories from 3 following this win over traditional rivals Lughnasa handball club in Phibblestown Community Centre on Saturday evening. Matches between the 2 clubs have a history of being close affairs and it was the same script here as it was 16-14 to the hosts at the break despite the Tallaght club starting slowly and allowing DI a 5 goal to nil lead. Whatever was said at half time in the DI changing room worked and between some excellent goalkeeping, ruthlessness in attack and a shallow Lughnasa bench combined to give DI a comprehensive victory over the team they defeated in last season’s Final 4 semi final.
