Ireland Claim 7th Place In IHF Trophy

The Irish Men’s U’20 team claimed 7th place in the IHF Trophy in Andorra at the weekend.

Following two tough defeats in their opening group matches vs Andorra (42-20) and the Faroe Islands (40-13) the Irish were unlucky to concede a last minute penalty to draw 24-24 with Azerbaijan.

That result meant Ireland would meet Albania in the 7th -8th place play off following the end of the group stages.

After an exciting 60 minutes of action both teams could not be separated so extra time was on the agenda. In extra time the Irish found their energy reserves and ran out 33-30 winners.

The week long event will prove a great experience not only to the players and coaches for the tournament but to the 2 referees who accompanied the squad. They will be able to bring their newly acquired skills back to domestic competitions next season.
