Dublin International Men and Astra Ladies Claim 1st Silverware Of 2014

Dublin International Handball Club continued where they left off in 2013 by claiming their 3rd IOHA Men’s Cup while Astra Ladies claimed their 1st IOHA Cup last weekend.

Gormanstown College was the venue for 2 days of exciting handball action with 8 Men’s and 4 Ladies teams participating in the 2 Cup competitions.

Taking part in the Men’s Competition were Astra, Dublin International, Dublin City, Galway, Lughnasa, St Pats Expendables , ¬†University College Cork and University College Dublin.

In the ladies competition 4 teams took part, Astra, Dublin International, Lughnasa and University College Dublin.

After 2 days of qualification matches DI met Astra in the final and at the end DI gained some revenge for their league final defeat last season by the slimmest of margins, a single goal.

In the bronze medal match a young Lughnasa side overcame the surprise package of the weekend, St. Pats again by 1 goal. St. Pats re-assembled only for the weekend really rolled back the years.

The ladies competition took place in a round robin format and unbeaten Astra HC successfully wrestled the cup from 2013 winners, Lughnasa, who had to settle for silver this year. Dublin International claimed bronze ahead of UCD.
